Award winning Worship Song

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

The nations were angry, and your wrath has come. The time has come for judging the dead, and for rewarding your servants the prophets and your people who revere your name, both great and small— and for destroying those who destroy the earth.” Revelation 11:18

Observation

Like much of the revelation of John’s vision, there are varied observations and interpretations of this chapters characters. The 2 witnesses, the timeline of the judgment involving the dragon and woman...etc.

What is consistent and obvious is God’s wrath and judgement. But we must not miss the focus of worship our much needed attention on God’s love, in Revelation. While the apocalyptic writings draw our minds to judgement and wrath, it also includes the love of God and HIs redeeming mercy. Verse 18 is part of a worship song, sung by 24 elders, face first in God’s presence!

Application

Would these lyrics and this worship song be nominated for an award in our culture? There is something very legitimate, truthful, real and serious about this worship song! A giving of thanks for who He is as God! A loving God, a fair God, a truthful God, an intense God!

I want my worship of God to be intense, loving, grace and joy filled! I also want to include a serious worship involving His fierce side. Lord help me - show me - teach me...!

Prayer

Show me the balance as Your representative, a teacher of Your Word - of how merciful, gracious and loving You are. And the fierceness, wrath and anger You can display. Are You an angry, vengeful God? You certainly display these qualities - but help me to study and know Your righteous character and ways. Help me Lord - to love You, respect You, live for You - and disciple people correctly according to Your Word and Spirit!
