Learning the Hard Way

Scripture

Daniel 4:
28 “All this happened to Nebuchadnezzar the king. 29 Twelve months later he was walking on theroof of the royal palace of Babylon. 30 The king [ab]reflected and said, ‘Is this not Babylon the great, which I myself have built as a royal [ac]residence by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?’

Observation

Nebuchadnezzar wanted Daniel to interpret his dream. Yet when told to him, what his dream meant, and what he must do, Nebuchadnezzar remained prideful and did not submit to God's instructions. Instead Nebuchadnezzar would think that all of what he had, came from his owns hands, all by himself. Nebuchadnezzar, was immediately removed and sent away.

Application

As many times as I have read these verses, my thoughts were always on how Nebuchadnezzar would not listen to the instructions God gave to him through Daniel. But then again, how many times have I not listened to something that God told me directly. Just as Nebuchadnezzar says, "his reason returned to him", an understanding, a deeper meaning has to be part of my intentional and submitted will to obey The Lord, no matter what He asks.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for the lessons in Your Word that helps me in my struggles. I must be obedient and listen to You, and not be hard headed.
