Every Opportunity

Tim Savage

Scripture

15So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. 16Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. 17Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. Ephesians 5

Observation

Written over 2000 years ago by Paul and the words are as relevant now as they were back then. Live like those that are wise, make the most of every opportunity in these evil days and understand what the Lord wants you to do. Of course these are words to live by and most of it is self evident, but today I want to focus on “make the most of every opportunity.” In these last days we must not waste time or opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ when we are given them.

Each of us has friends, family and influence in to certain circles of people. One of us is a schoolteacher, another a fireman, someone else the president of a bank – we all have a slightly different sphere of influence. I can’t speak to all of those in someone else’s group, just as they can’t speak to everyone in my group. Now by “speak to” I mean, “connect with.” Who better to connect with a teacher than another teacher? Shared experiences, shared understandings. When we have the to opportunity to share Christ with someone in our sphere of influence we mustn’t squander it.

Application

So how do we share with those around us? By example, through our words, through our lifestyle and how we treat others. Love people until they ask you why. Our behavior matters, if we live like fools people have no reason to be interested in our beliefs, in fact they would want to steer clear of us all together. We don’t know how much time any of us has left here, nor do we know if we are indeed in the final chapter of the book, so we have to make the most of what God has given us. I must take the opportunities that come my way as divine appointments given by my creator. I must live in such a way so as to make Jesus famous and people interested in getting to know Him. I must use the gifts and talents bestowed by Him for His glory for the biggest impact and I hope to better understand His plan for my life.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

May my life please You and bring You honor and glory. Help me to make the most of every opportunity. May I draw people closer to You by the way I live.

In Jesus name,

Amen
