Scripture

Mark 1:16As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18At once they left their nets and followed him.

19When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.

Observation

In this scene we witness the perfect model of discipleship portrayed by Jesus Himself. He was walking amongst the people and He noticed and called those who were to become His disciples. These interactions were the beginnings of Jesus and the disciples relationships. Jesus did not leave these important relationships to chance but He carefully hand picked those who were to be called His disciples.

Application

So now our job is to follow this model. Who are those that God is calling you to lead and follow. In this season and prayer this will be a perfect time to hear from the Lord on this subject. Jesus as He continued on in His ministry preached to the masses but away from the crowds He had intimate relationships with His disciples. We must be disciples and disciplers for Jesus.

Prayer

Lord Jesus thank You for not leaving these special discipleship relationships up to chance. Thank you for choosing me and pouring out Your life for me. Please help me to choose wisely those in whom I will enter into relationship with. Lead me and guide me please. In Jesus name I pray Amen.
