Yes

Jay Miura

Scripture

Acts 8:34And the eunuch said to Philip, “About whom, I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?” 35Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning with this Scripture he told him the good news about Jesus. 36And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”[e]38And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. 39And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord carried Philip away, and the eunuch saw him no more, and went on his way rejoicing.

Observation

Wow what a scene. We see two men responding to God’s directions for their lives. First response is when we see Phillip fresh off an awesome mission trip in Samaria where tons of people get saved after hearing the gospel and seeing many signs and wonders. Then God gives Him direction to go south. So what does Phillip do? He goes. And in his response to God’s direction opportunities arise for the gospel to be preached.

Now the second response that we see is that of the Ethiopian man. His willingness to be baptized as soon as he heard the gospel is like watching an on fire new believer. The Good News was truly Good News to the Ethiopian man.

Application

God uses us in building His Kingdom by using our simple yes. A simple yes to be obedient to what He is calling you to can be so substantial in accordance with God’s plans. So what is God asking of me today? He is asking me to take care of the kids while my wife is out of town. This is the end of one week home alone with the kiddos. My wife is in Japan ministering to her Grandma who was in the hospital. My wife heard that she was sick, having a difficult time and was in poor spirits. So my wife told me she felt lead by the Spirit to go visit her. Oh man all of the things were running through my mind about this trip and they were not the godly ones. I was thinking about the cost and having to take off of work to watch the kids, but I didn’t think about how awesome it was for my wife to give her simple yes to God’s prompting. Her simple yes to God has already made significant breakthrough for God’s Kingdom. Little did she know but by giving her Yes to Jesus God was going to use her as an ambassador of His love to her whole family. Now that is good news. Grandma is doing much better and will be going home from the hospital soon.

Prayer

Dear Lord please forgive me for at first not seeing how amazing my wife’s yes to you was. Thank you that were still able to use this opportunity for your glory. Please help me to be more sensitive to your promptings and what you are doing all around me. I love you Lord Amen
