An Evil Leader

Marsha Kochi

Scripture

2 Chronicles 33:22-24“He did evil in the sight of the LORD as Manasseh his father had done, and Amon sacrificed to all the carved images which his father Manasseh had made, and he served them. Moreover, he did not humble himself before the LORD as his father Manasseh had done, but Amon multiplied guilt. Finally his servants conspired against him and put him to death in his own house.”

Observation

This is an evil king that worshipped false idols which his father inspired. He is so bad that his servants couldn't stand him; they had to kill him.
The Bible speaks of many that were worse than the fathers before them, but Amon continued to sin again and again and again. He didn't call out and humble himself before the Lord as his father finally did, instead he continued to do what was detestable in the eyes of the Lord.

Application

I am in to Criminal Minds and Law and Order. In these episodes, I am learning about serial killers, sociopaths and psychopaths and outright evil people. Amon would probably fall into this category of ones that carry generational sin to another level of evil. It really scares me to think that there is a possibility of an infant that I hold in my arms, that smells so wonderful, that looks so innocent, can turn into someone so evil. I need to always be sharing with my children and grandchildren the ways of the Lord. They need to know that the decisions and choices they make can affect the generations to come. They need to be aware of the things that the Lord has taught to me to bring them to a place where they humble themselves before the Lord. The things that we, as parents have done that were negative and sinful doesn't have to be repeated. They have the opportunity to turn from the evil and choose what is right in the Eyes of our Lord and Savior.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for chance after chance to make things right. The choice to turn from our evil ways, to humble ourselves before You and the opportunities that You provide to redeem and restore the bad choices that I've made in the past.
