In Remembrance

Scripture

1 Corinthians 11:23-25
“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me." In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."

Observation

Being in the right spirit as we partake of the bread representing His Body and the juice representing the Blood that was shed for us, is Important. It's a time where we come before Him in humility and reverence examining our hearts, and our spirit kindred with the Holy Spirit. We humbly approach the altar as sinners, redeemed by His grace and by the Blood that paid the price for life.

Application

How can we forget what the Lords Supper represents? Yet, He states, "do this in remembrance of me". Often I may take my life for granted, not taking seriously the decisions that I make. Not stewarding my life well, and living carelessly. I remember seeing this sign engraved in the podium of the church I attended as a child, never really understanding the depth of the Lords sacrifice for me. The Lord knew that we would forget and not take the bread and juice with the urgency of repentance, and remembering the Cross; the ultimate sacrifice.

Prayer

Thank You Lord for always remembering me. As I reflect upon what happened on this day, many years ago, I remember what You did on that Cross. As we take communion, help us to always come in gratefulness and in faith remembering. Help us to feel Your presence, as we come before You in reverence of Your selflessness.
