Cornerstone of Alignment

John Tilton

Scripture

Psalm 18:22-25

The stonethe builders rejectedhas become the cornerstone;theLordhas done this, and it is marvelousin our eyes.TheLordhas done it this very day;let us rejoice today and be glad.

Observation

In Isaiah 28:16, the Lord says “Behold, I am laying a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.”Thus, by God’s word, Jesus is indeed the stone referred to in Psalm 12:22-25.Furthermore, we know that the people of Israel for the most part would reject Jesus and crucify Him.However, He would rise from death and be the path to salvation and life everlasting.

This lays the foundation for the truth of the Psalm in that Jesus by His very being was meant to be the foundation for mankind in their relationship to the Lord and life.Yet, although He was rejected and sentenced to death, He became the foundation in His death and resurrection, that we would find grace, mercy, hope, and eternal salvation.

As a cornerstone is the main stone that the rest of a building or wall is built from in alignment, so too is Jesus that foundational stone that our lives can and should be built on.If Jesus through the word of God is in our hearts, mind, soul, and principles; our lives can be in alignment.Like a building cornerstone, if the cornerstone is not set right, the extending wall or walls will be out of alignment and crooked. The result is a faulty and dangerous structure. Thus, recognizing Jesus as our cornerstone through His word and prayer will keep our cornerstone well-founded.Furthermore, our lives would be structurally sound in Christ.

Application

I need to make my time with Jesus and the Word a foundational practice in my life.I know that if I start the day set on the rock of truth, my journey and actions for the day will be well-aligned.

Prayer

Dear Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice, and setting the foundation of who you are within me.Thank you for being the solid rock that everything in my life should extend from.
