How Are You Going to Respond

Calvin Kochi

Scripture

Colossians 4:5-6

5Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.

Observation

Paul reminds me how important it is to conduct yourselves wisely, so that you can make the most out of each opportunity you have to influence someone. What we say and how we say things is so important. If we truly want to be an influencer, knowing how to respond to them, and what we say makes all the difference.

Application

I remember early in my walk with the Lord I was talking with one of my clients. She kept on nagging , and having such a negative attitude that it kept wearing me down. Before I knew it I was not speaking with grace, and my words were not seasoned with salt. I became frustrated and verbalized it poorly. At that very moment I lost all ability to be an influence in her life. I left totally disappointed with myself. This verses are an encouragement to me it is a reminder of how important it is to speak with grace and to chose my words wisely. It has been my journey to increase my ability to be a better communicator and to season my words wisely. Learning what to say, how to say it, and when to say it, is so important it teaches me to watch how I conduct myself so that others can see Jesus, and I can make the most of the opportunities that I am given.

Prayer

Thank you for reminding me how important it is to uses words wisely, and to use the opportunities that I am given to use grace to season my words.
