Scripture

S 1 John 2:15-16

15Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.

Observation

Being raised in the world and being conformed to the Pattern of this world is so natural. How can you distinguish whether you are living for the Lord or for the world? Here we have a good checklist in which to gauge who I am living for and what is driving me. Three keys are given here. If you are living by wanting what feels good, or what you see is something that drives you to wanting to have it, and then if you can’t get it i totally frustrates you. You are being by the things of this world. The trapping of the world is coming in prettier, brighter, and made to be so important to have, and if you get it you will satisfy all you wants and desires and be totally happy.

Application

The worldly desires that we are engrained to believe is a trap to get our focus on the accumulation of things and the love of what feels good. We believe that the prettier the skinner, the more handsome the more muscles, the house, car I have the happier the more loved I will be. I can fall into the trap of the enemy and love and desire things of the world as more important than God. I need to constantly have a guard over my heart and eyes so that I don’t fall into the Pride of life.

Prayer

Lord may you be the guard over my flesh, my eyes, and my wanting things my way and now.
