Outta Food Again?!

Tim Savage

Scripture
4His disciples replied, “How are we supposed to find enough food to feed them out here in the wilderness?” Mark 8
Observation
Just a little while after Jesus performed the miracle of the feeding of the 5000, He and the disciples found themselves in another similar situation – 4000 people, late afternoon, people were hungry and the food, virtually gone. Now, I’m thinking, the disciples must still be riding high on the last miracle – Jesus just fed 10-15,000 people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish, here, there are half as many people and 2 additional loaves of bread, but the disciples still don’t have the faith to believe that Jesus can provide. Hard to believe.
Application
Hard to believe, indeed, and yet, am I any different? Am I any better? Do I have a strong faith? I think so, but then, has my faith really ever been tested? It’s easy for me to point to the splinter in someone else’s eye, but look past the log in my own. How do we know the strength of our faith, when we are so afraid of actually having to rely on our faith? I need to continually “build altars” when I see God move, in other words, I need to stop and commit to memory that event. If I build an altar, then I’ll be reminded of God’s power and grace in my life, this in turn, will help my faith to grow. So, instead of questioning whether God can make a difference or whether He can feed the 4000, I’ll remember that He’s done it before and all I really need is faith.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I want to build altars in my life to remind me of Your provision and miracles in my life. I want to be a man of faith, who, even if untested, will be proven to believe without a doubt in my Creator and God. In Jesus name, Amen
