The Mystery Declared

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. Colossians 4:3-4

Observation

The reason Paul is imprisoned is because of his faith in a mysterious God. For this mystery, he desires freedom to declare the gospel. Suffering for someone or something that is a mystery and unsolvable contradicts clear thinking.

This mystery has been revealed to his saints. (1:26 the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints.) Paul writes of reaching the riches of full assurance of understanding and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3

Application

Like Paul, the mystery of Jesus has been revealed to me and I long to speak His Word! I have no limitations. I’m not handicapped, imprisoned, unhealthy - so what reasons do I have not to proclaim the Jesus? I don’t even need to pray for an open door - I have the liberty to speak and declare Jesus in my country.

So what’s my problem? AM I too caught up in what others may think of me? AM I too ashamed of Jesus and my relationship with Him? Am I weak or fearful?

Prayer

Oh God! Please - Please forgive me for my fear, timidity and weakness! I am such a chicken, too caught up with my own agenda. I do the works of a pastor and don’t even represent You in boldness.

I am too caught up with some luxuries and pleasures of life. I really want You to be my Highest Pleasure. Oh God...!! have mercy on me and change me....
What will it cost?
