Obedience from my heart upholding Your standard

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
[17]But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, [18]and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. Romans 6:17-18
Observation
Baptism represents the death of Jesus, then being resurrected conquering sin, death and giving us eternal acceptance, forgiveness, reconciliation through Him. It’s through Jesus that we are alive to God and dead to sin. Paul establishes our relationship with Jesus, through grace having conquered sin and it’s penalties. We are no longer enslaved to and by sin - and it no longer has control or power over me. I am under God’s dominion, not under the restrictions and obligations of the law.
Application
Obedience from the heartThis phrase sticks out to me because I am now God’s slave and the desire I know have and live by is to be obedient from the heart. My obedience is a desire from God, no longer a duty, form or obligation. Because I am a slave of righteousness, desiring to be righteous in heart and life - I desire to be obedient to Jesus and HIs Word from and with all my heart!

Standard of TeachingI’m so moved to uphold the standard of God’s Word, Paul’s teaching through Romans, being strengthened as a teacher of the Gospel. I have a deep desire to know Him and His Word, upholding this standard of teaching in my personal heart and life. But also as a Pastor-Teacher, equipping others to know and uphold the standard of His Word.
Prayer
Dear Godhead! Please help me to continue being obedient from my heart unto You and to uphold Your Word from and with all my heart. May I be more and more transformed into Your righteous image - and I am super grateful to You for setting me free form sin. I am honored to be Your slave of righteousness.
