I’ll Remember You

John Tilton

Scripture

Genesis 40:20-22 Now the third day was Pharaoh’s birthday, and he gave a feast for all his officials. He lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker in the presence of his officials: He restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand—but he impaled the chief baker, just as Joseph had said to them in his interpretation. The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot him.

Observation

These scriptures culminate the cup bearer promising Joseph that he would remember to put in a good word for Joseph with Pharaoh when the cup bearer was released from prison and restored to his position. The cup bearer was indeed released and restored to his position, however, he forgot to keep his word with Joseph of putting in a good work with Pharaoh for Joseph.

Application

Are we like the cup bearer sometimes where we are so devout in our prayer time and calling upon the Lord when we are in need. Then when things get better and we are not challenged anymore, we slack off in our prayer and time with the Lord, because we don’t feel entrapped anymore but the dire situation we may have been in? When things are good, we often delve in the what is enticing rather then what is important in our relationship with God.

Prayer

Dear Lord, may my relationship and dedication to you be the same in good times and bad, predicated on who you are and my need to fellowship with you, less I forget who I am in Christ.
