But Jesus Was Sinless

John Tilton

Scripture

Luke 23:40-41 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Observation

The second criminal who rebuked the first had keen insight. We don’t know if he heard about Jesus prior to being crucified, but it was so clear that he knew that God had his hand on Jesus. How is it that the other got caught up in the mocking, especially when it is a fact that only Jesus in sinless. The fact of the matter is that we don’t usually get what we deserve for our sin, because Jesus did it for us by being crucified. Yet we forget to honor Jesus as this criminal did

Application

Like the criminals, we are sinners. It is through the Lord who was sinless, that our sins are covered by His death. It would be my heart’s desire to always realize that I am a sinner and that the sinless one in Jesus Christ took my death sentence so that I might live.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I will do my best to be cognizant of what you did on the cross for me and my salvation. May I not get caught up and influenced by worldly situations and others who live in the world.
