Who Turned the Lights Down S

Calvin Kochi

Scripture

17For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. 18So take care how you listen; for whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has shall be taken away from him.” Luke 8:17-18

Observation

How can our light truly shine if we have hidden secrets or hidden selfish motive and desires? The first place the light must shine on is our own lives. We must allow the Light of His Spirit expose the hidden areas of our life, and allowing the truth of Gods Word to speak to us. Whether we allow Him to reveal our hidden secrets or not it is clear that it will be exposed we can hide nothing for Him.

Application

If I want to that light placed on that lamp stand I must make sure that the light that I shine is from a genuine faith and not one that is dimmed by the hidden sin that I try to hide in secret. If I truly want to be that Light I must become a better listener to the word of God, and allow it to purify my heart. His Word must be that light unto my path and a lamp onto my feet. How can the light that I shine get any brighter if I cannot steward the Light that I have already been given, and how can I shine a light that I don’t have. I can think that I am shining the light but how can I when I have no wick. How can I want more if I cannot take care of the things that he has already given to me.

Prayer

Lord help me to be a better listener of your Word so that you can purify me to be a light on the lamp stand.
