"All In" Amos!

Jon Burgess

Scripture

14Amos answered Amaziah, “I was neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I was a shepherd, and I also took care of sycamore-fig trees. 15But the Lord took me from tending the flock and said to me, ‘Go, prophesy to my people Israel.’ 16Now then, hear the word of the Lord. Amos 7:15-16

Observation

The priest Amaziah didn't want to hear the word of the Lord from the prophet Amos, but that didn't matter. Amos wasn't there to make friends. Amos wasn't there becuase it was part of the family business. Amos wasn't there because this was what he even had planned on doing or wanted to do. Amos would speak what God said to speak because God said so! God moved Amos from figs and flocks to the full plan He had for him. There was no way Amos was going to keep quiet or back out now! He had left everything he had known to follow God and that's how he would live the rest of his life! Amos was all in and God was all in Him!

Application

There was a mighty movement last night of Amos-like intensity. I had the privilege of speaking at our One Generation youth camp last night and saw the move of The Holy Spirit first hand. Last week during our 4th-8th grade camp we saw over 20 salvations and 33 called to go into ministry. Yesterday, during 9th-12th grade we saw over 20 salvations, over 30 called into the ministry, over 70 receiving the Baptism of The Holy Spirit, 1 physical healing and 1 demonic deliverance. It was the stuff of the 1st Century church at work in the 21st Century Church! It was a group of young people, like Amos, who were leaving their culture and sometimes family backgrounds to be ALL IN for Jesus! I can't help but wonder what God has in store for this mighty army of Amos warriors who will say what God says simply because God said it!

Prayer

Prayer: I am in awe! I am humbled. I repent. As I watched these youth ALL IN for You it made me ask myself if I was as abandoned to Your Ways. I know I was when I was younger. I pray that I would continue to say what You've called me to say no matter what others may think. I don't want to play it safe. I don't want to hedge my bets. I want to be ALL IN for You! Help me and your leaders to steward well what You are doing in the hearts and lives of our young people! This is just the beginning!
