PIT-y Party Syndrome.

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.” Psalm 40:8

Observation

David was acquainted with despair, defeat and the doom of his life. Having been rescued from deathly situations, he continues to put his trust in God. Delighting in God in the good times is pretty easy. But what about the difficult days, weeks, even seasons of hardship? What about when the hardship seems to never go away? The hardship may be a person, a health situation, a financial collapse or living in you...called your disobedience to God.

Application

Like David, I want to join the Word of God with my delighting in Him. Praise is more prone to be on my lips when I’m rescued or being rescued. But no matter the hardship, I want to make Jesus my delight and the only way I know this is strengthened is by hiding the Word of God in my heart. Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against You! In fact - I just had to cut and paste this section...

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Psalm 119:9-11

But it’s also other people’s pits that drag me into my own pit. Dealing with others problems, can make for a “pity party” of my own. My attitude starts sinking in the pit of impatience, grumbling and the likes. O God...Help Me!

Prayer

Dear Jesus,
Thank you for being the Living Word, living in me! May I delight in You and Your Word. I ask for strength to walk through, lead through, live through the “little pits” I’m dealing with. It’s other people’s pitfalls that seem to drag me into a pit of my own. Thank you for being so gracious with me in my lack of patience for others...HELP ME JESUS!
