Leaving a Legacy

Marsha Kochi

Scripture

Joshua 4:5-7
“and Joshua said to them, "Cross again to the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you take up a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel. Let this be a sign among you, so that when your children ask later, saying, 'What do these stones mean to you?' then you shall say to them, 'Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off.' So these stones shall become a memorial to the sons of Israel forever."

Observation

Everything that God does in our lives, as well as the lives of others, should never be forgotten. Here Joshua asks a man from each tribe to honor God by allowing this memorial to stand. Future generations would be taught of God's miracles as He brought His people to the Promise Land.

Application

It's easy to speak about the many things that God does in my life. The blessings that only He can pour out and the miracles that He has performed.
Leaving a legacy for my children and my children's children is what will really will make a difference in the future generations. They have to know who the Lord is and what His plans are for their lives. The difficult task is getting them to listen, just as it was for me. Someone shared with me a message of hope through Jesus Christ, and in His time, it came together. A good reminder, is that how I represent Him in the things that I say and do, is also a message of hope. I must consistently share Him with others, that He will always exist in the hearts of His people.

Prayer

Lord, let me always share, refresh and renew the message of hope that you've allowed us to have in Jesus Christ. Let it never be where people will forget Who You are. Thank you for my husband who consistently shares with my son's the importance of bringing up their children in Your ways.
