Faithful and Wise Manager

Carl Higashi

Scripture

Luke 12:42-44

42The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.

Observation

This is a word of direct accountability to the Disciples of Christ. Jesus speaks this word to His followers, but it is also spoken in the presence of a whole crowd of people.

This is the description of a faithful and wise manager, one who gives them their food allowance at the proper time. Jesus basically issues this challenge to His disciples in front of the masses! The servant that is doing this will be rewarded and his influence as well as his responsibility to care for others will be increased!

Jesus is obviously not talking about feeding the people food as He in the preceding verses states not to worry about what to eat or wear. But instead, He wants His disciples to know the importance of the teaching and discipling those who God brings to you!

Application

Focus on discipling those who God has brought to me.

Jesus requires me to go and make disciples of Him. I must sow into the people whom God brings to me, where they can then do the same for others and be released to do the same as the Spirit leads them. Don't be distracted from discipling those He brings!

Expect greater things to come from those whom I disciple and that they far exceed anything that I may accomplish.

Prayer

Lord everyday my heart if filled with thankfulness and love for You! I am constantly reminded how much You love me and have been near to me especially during the last 11 days in the hospital and now the last 3 at home. You have healed me and have allowed those whom I have had the honor to disciple rise up in their leadership for the glory of You. Now they in turn have opportunities to do the same and multiply your disciples here.

Help me now to complete the healing of my leg and then focus on a new set of disciples, those who I will live life with and will see a kingdom vision for what heaven looks like here on earth. Help me to be a faithful and wise manager for You, that people are saved and discipled for the glory of You and the building of Your Kingdom!

Love you Lord with all my heart! In Jesus’ name I pray! Amen!
