Investing Wisely

Tim Savage

Scripture

20“But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ 21“This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” Luke 12

Observation

Jesus tells the parable of a man who is very successful. In fact, his success was only limited by the size of his warehouses, so he tore down the old warehouses and built bigger ones and fills them. When that was done he sat back, admired his wealth, ate, drank and partied. That night his soul was required of him and he died and all of his hard work was enjoyed by someone else. I must choose my priorities carefully. How will I spend my time, talent and resources? The riches of this world are temporary, they will be lost, spent, stolen or rust away, but the riches of heaven are eternal. If the rich man had put all of that work in to his faith and followed Christ he would have spent eternity in a paradise of riches.

Application

“No amount of success in the marketplace will ever make up for failure at home,” Pastor Wayne Cordeiro. And if that weren’t bad enough, no amount of success will get you in to heaven. I must spend my time and treasure on the only thing of lasting value, my relationship with Jesus Christ. A healthy and growing relationship with Him will put the rest of my life in the right perspective. When my time comes to stand before God for judgment I want to hear, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” A nicer car, more money or a bigger house might be a huge distraction and make it harder to reach the only goal that really matters. I must invest wisely.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive me when I am selfish and my priorities are wrong. I want to do Your will and spend my time and talent pleasing You.

In Jesus name,

Amen
