Daily Renewal & Transformation

Tim Savage

Scripture

2Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12

Observation

This verse is packed with important lessons and reminders for me. 1) Don’t conform to the way of the world, 2) transform my thinking to Jesus’ thinking and 3) then I will be better able to discern His will for my life. My constant prayer is that His will be done in my life, but it’s hard to be sure sometimes exactly what His will is! And that’s because my will is usually at odds with His. My selfish nature wants situations and circumstances to favor me, so I might be advocating and manipulating, even subconsciously, to come out ahead.

Application

The only way for me to truly live in His will is to reject the world’s definition of success and righteousness. Truly, the best way for me to transform my thinking to His thinking is to through my reading and journaling. Weekend services are important but the active participation of being in the word and giving deep thought to my journal entry, then writing it out, can’t be beat. The interaction and focus engage more senses driving the lessons deeper in to my memory and soul. It’s the daily-ness, the repetition that saves me because I’m like a dog distracted by a squirrel, chasing after whatever runs across my path at the time.

When I’m not faithful in my devotions I am much more prone to pride and selfishness. Journaling helps me adjust my course back to true north, humility and selflessness. Hearing and discerning God’s will starts with me having a right and pure heart, then His voice is louder and His will is clearer and I have more joy.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Forgive my selfishness. Forgive me for manipulating everything to favor me. I must put others first and kill the pride that insidiously rises up inside. Please show me Your will and grant me the wisdom to see it.

In Jesus name,

Amen
