Conviction to Worship Jesus

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture
[1]Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, [2]saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” Matthew 2:1-2
Observation
For me, verses 1-2, in my observation of chapter 2 summarizes the context. Matthew is not merely trying to “explain” the story of God, but directly points his audience to the person of Jesus. This Jesus is the object of worship. So much so that the wise men sought to worship Him. As a new born, He is being called the King of the Jews! The revelation of a star arising, was the sign for these wise men and their entouarage to travel from afar to worship this Messiah.

Application
Worship, Love, respect, adoration, honor is to be given to Jesus. If such prominent wise men traveled hundreds of miles to seek out this King of the Jews, how much more should I worship HIm with all my heart and life!!??!! I really feel like a spoiled, 21st century Americanized Christian who is scratching the surface of what it really means to love and live for Jesus. I’m so stink in’ convicted of my self centeredness, greed, works of my flesh that is so alive - I sicken’ my self! This is no joke. I can put on a good show on the outside - but God… am I convicted deeply of my unrighteous, selfish, worldly heart!

  • A great brother reminded me…. at best, even as a Christian, we are tainted with flesh. We are imperfect while realizing that God uses us despite us. He is God - so He can work all things according to His will. He can fulfill what He intends in purpose for His glory!
Prayer
Lord - Is my life really yours - completely? Yes I love You - trust You - believe in You! But Oh My God… Have mercy on me. Cut me deeper by the conviction of Your Spirit, to have Your way in and through this life - You own me. I really want to live as though I am NOT MY OWN! HELP LORD! I give You my worship. I hope I can choose to come from afar - to do whatever it takes to worship you!
