Steadfast Love and Faithfulness

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil. Proverbs 16:6

Observation

I’m stringing the thought that V1-3, are to be kept in mind in relationship to God’s steadfast love and faithfulness (V6).

  • V1 - The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord.
God will direct our way, according to His plans. God’s love and faithfulness oversees our lives.

  • V2 - All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.
The Lord knows the hearts of HIs creation. I think again, that the Lord’s love and faithfulness pardons our self centered evaluations.

  • V3 - Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
“...to the Lord.” Everything we are and do should be committed to the Lord right!? The “committed” way we live because of God’s love and faithfulness, enables my plans to be ordered or established in Him.

Even in the Old Testament we see the mercy and pardon of God, not dependent on our works, but God’s love and faithfulness. My sins are no more, then by the fear of the Lord, I continue to make choices to turn away from evil.

Application

It’s simple - but my heart response is deeper, more intimate and intentional gratefulness to God! That’s it...! Worship that I pray results in living a life pleasing to Jesus. So what part of my life - do I need God’s love and faithfulness to invade with mercy and forgiveness? Pride who’s face looks like jealousy, comparing myself, and sinful attitudes that go along with these evil characteristics! How yukky! But my hope? Jesus love and faithfulness and the Spirit’s work to fill me me with God’s mercy and love!

Prayer

Dear Daddie God! Thank you for filling my heart with the fear of God! Thank you for Your love and faithfulness - no matter how I perform, your steadfast love fills me - Your faithfulness leads me to live for You! You are so good and faithful!
