The human Jesus obeys

Rod Shimabukuro

Scripture

John 13:2 The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. 3Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;

Observation

The devil, Judas, Judas father Simon Iscariot, Jesus, Father and God are all mentioned in 2 sentences. One of the major turning points in history, as Jesus is betrayed towards His execution. The mention of Judas’ father makes me wonder if John is making a subtle, yet stark contrast between an earthy father’s son, and our heavenly Father’s Son. There’s certainly the distinct roles of each - as the earthly and eternal purposes are being played out in John 13!

I’m also intrigued by verse 27 - As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.
Then Jesus directs Judas to ...“do quickly, what he must do...”

The fact that JESUS KNEW (v3) what His Father’s plan and purpose was, seemed to strengthen Jesus to obey and fulfill His mission.

Application

My application...? I’m fully and wonderfully filled with awe - to worship and more deeply appreciate the human process of God. God the Father’s relationship with His Son. Allowing Him to go through the grueling life, which I would think at times seemed like an eternity for Jesus.

The human seconds, minutes - ticking away, must’ve felt excruciating for Jesus the Son of Man. Yet, the KNOWING of His eternal destiny, hope, and the completion of redeeming all creation through His life, death and RETURN to His Father! This calls me to more joyfully love and live for Jesus!

Prayer

Thank you JESUS God!! Thank You Father God!! Thank you for Your great partnership with the Holy Spirit, united as One God, to purpose to save me from eternal damnation and separation from You all! Thank you for overcoming and destroying the plans of Judas and the devil - for my life, let alone the Whole World! God.... I SHOUT OUT LOUD...I LOVE YOU!!!!!
