Clean, Sweep, and Water Daily!

Carl Higashi

Scripture

Matthew 12:43-45

43 "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. 44 Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation."

Observation

Jesus clearly is teaching that spirits inhabit people. Here He speaks of a spirit that has gone out of a person and that it will search for a place to come to rest or inhabit another person. The place this unclean spirit comes to rest is a place that is spiritually dry. The spirit that was sent out will come back and check if the person from whom it was left has been changed, watered, and no longer arid.

Then in verse 45, He says, if this person (home) is left empty with no faith, no living water of God, even a greater number of spirits will be brought along with the one that one that had gone out of the person. The house needs to be emptied of sin, swept clean regularly by the washing of the word of God that the house not just be emptied of sin, but also filled with the living water, the Holy Spirit of God.

Application

There is nothing more important that daily time with God in His word.

Pastor Wayne says that doing our daily devotions are the highest form of prayer as we read God's word He speaks to us directly in the exact words He would like us to hear. Through His word and in the presence of the Holy Spirit, spirits that are unholy NEVER have a chance to inhabit my house, my temple (my body), where instead the Holy Spirit has full residence and authority in me!

Daily maintenance by His word is the key for me!

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank you for your Word and that you allow me to be watered, refreshed, and fed by daily. Thank you for the wonderful life lessons and directions that I have been able to glean to direct my steps as a man of God, husband, father, and minister. Thank you Lord that as I fully apply your direction given to me through my time in devotions, You have NEVER steered me wrong! You are a good, good Father! Love you Dad, thank you for your wonderful direction daily!

May You continuously sweep clean and fill my heart by your word daily!

In Jesus' name I pray. Amen!
